READING COMPREHENSION
R1.   Read the article.
If you could go anywhere, …
This week our reporter round town asked: “If you could take a trip anywhere in the world, where would you go?”
Alison, 28, administrative assistant: I’d go to Antarctica. It’s so far away, and it would be so different. I read an article that said it’s the coldest and windiest place on Earth. I love the winter, though, so I wouldn’t mind the snow and ice!
Matt, 33, computer analyst: I’d go to the Andes – between Chile and Argentina. I understand the scenery is really beautiful there. I’d hire a guide and go hiking through the mountains. I’ve heard there are several active volcanoes in the area.
Hilary, 48, salesperson: Could I take my husband? If he couldn’t come with me, I’d probably go to Rio de Janeiro and just lie on the beach! But if I could, we’d go to China. He loves architecture, so we’d visit some historical places – like the Forbidden City in Beijing and the Great Wall.
Bob, 21, student: I’d go to Timbuktu. That’s not a joke. I’ve heard Timbuktu is a real place in Africa, near the Sahara Desert. The name just sounds so interesting. It would be really cool to go there.
